Chicken and Waffles, Chicken and Waffles that's what I usually chant when I think of going to the Atl my first stop is usually Gladys Knights Chicken and Waffles where I order the cat fish fillets w/grits and raisin toast (I've never actually had the chicken and waffles). I'm sure there are other good items on the menu but I always get the same thing call me boring. Oh and don't forget the sweet tea hey Im a New Yorker the small things excite me.
Breakfast The two times I visited the place it was packed, it also was a Saturday so get there early. The food is like down home cooking. I can't for the life of me remember what I had to eat but I know it was good.
Mary Macs Tea Room- I don't know if I like the decor or the food more. It's decorated like a actual tea room which makes you feel as if your in a home in Charleston, SC. On the table is a form that you fill out your order and hand it to your server. The southern cooking is super and they have fried okra which is a yummy addition. The desserts look great too I never can get the dessert because I'm so full off of my meal. I'm sure there tasty and I make sure I go here on every visit to the Atl.
The Flying Biscuit serves breakfast and lunch but I have never gotten past breakfast. The clifton omlette is to dye for no meat but full of vegatables. There are plenty of options for meat eaters most come with fruit of grits. I always go for the creamy grits. The biscuits are a treat as well.
For a fancier night out try Two Urban Licks. This restaurant is housed in a old warehouse building with an open kitchen. I love to see what's going on in the kitchen. I visited this restaurant for a friends birthday so we had almost everything on the menu and there wasn't one item that I didn't LOVE. There's lots of small plates that are great for sharing ranging from $7-12 and entrees are moderately priced. If you go Tues-Sat. there's live blues playing.
Lobby at Twelve which I just found out is owned by the same company as Two Urban Licks (no wonder I love them both) Lobby is a bar bistro with...wait for it...an open kitchen!!! I told yall it's the little things that get me excited. I had the Grilled Skirt steak w/mashed potatoes and zucchini. I was torn between the shrimp and grits and steak but decided on the steak because if you see from my previous post I'm on the verge of turning into a grit. I also had a house salad w/a house dressing. Not only was the waiter wonderful I had to send a message back to the chief that my food was divine. If I wasn't with my conservative cousin who happens to be a regular at the restaurant I would have licked the plate.
